Webcasts of Bereavement Conferences

Death in the Latino Family: Helping a Surviving Spouse
In October, 2002, Horizon held a conference at the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum. A two-hour clinical seminar on family dynamics in Latino culture was presented by Dr. Sara Schwarzbaum. This was followed by a guided tour of the renowned Day of the Dead exhibit by Lydia Huante, the museum's Director of Education. To listen to this event, click here.

A Conversation with Studs Terkel and Dr. Quentin Young
In February, 2002, noted Chicago author Studs Terkel and his physician and friend, Dr. Quentin Young, talked about some of the end-of-life issues raised in Studs' book, Will the Circle Be Unbroken: Reflections on Death, Rebirth and Hunger for a Faith. To view a webcast of this event, click here.

Cultural Variations in the Grief Process
Note: This educational offering is recognized by the Association for Death Education and Counseling to meet the thanatology-related contact hour requirement to be Certified in Thanatology: Death, Dying and Bereavement. Call the Bereavement Coordinator at 312.733.8900 for more information. Horizon held an intriguing 2-day conference in November, 2001, that explored how different cultures perceive death and mourn loved ones. The first day guided participants through relevant exhibits at cultural institutions. The second day offered social workers, therapists, and healthcare professionals a series of workshops to help them assess, address, and assist the bereaved from varying cultures. The second-day workshops were digitally recorded and can be viewed by clicking on this webcast link.
