Grief and Bereavement Support Services

Nothing is harder than losing someone you love.

The families and friends of our patients can count on the compassionate care of Horizon’s staff and trained volunteers to help them through their bereavement. Horizon maintains contact with families for 13 months after the death of a loved one.

Grief is a natural and necessary process. Because the grieving process is different for everyone, people who have lost a loved one are assessed on an individual basis. Horizon’s Bereavement Department works with the families of patients to determine the services that will best address their needs.

Services may include:

Short-term individual counseling

Support groups
Creative, therapeutic programming
Referral services for those who may need additional services from the community
Educational workshops
An annual remembrance service for families, friends, and Horizon staff to celebrate the life of each patient
Grief literature, including materials based on an individual’s personal experience
