Workshop--Preparing for Transition
Thursday March 27th, 2008 6:00pm-7:00pm
(A light supper will be served, so we’ll need to know if you’ll be here. Please call 312-492-3082 before Wednesday March 26th)

Transition is the act of moving from one reality to another. Perhaps the only universal transition after birth is the act of dying itself: It is an event surrounded by many emotions and can be overwhelming--even for the best prepared families. This workshop examines the practicalities of death and dying. It looks at options for the grieving family, funeral planning that both protects the environment and contains cost, as well as the acts of memorializing and ritualizing. Advance Directives (Living Wills, Powers of Attorney, and ethical wills) will also be presented and free samples will be made available for participants.

Presenter: Noel Gilligan, MDiv, MPS, Volunteer Coordinator

Annual Volunteer Appreciation & Celebration Brunch

Sunday April 13th, 2008: 11:00am until 1:00pm
Marcello’s Restaurant, 745 W. North Avenue in Chicago

Please note that this event is free to volunteers, but we are asking for a $20 donation for each volunteer’s guest(s) to cover costs.

Workshop--Understanding Buddhist Culture as it impacts End-of-Life Care
Wednesday April 16th: 6:00pm-7:00pm
(A light supper will be served, so we need to know if you plan on being here. Please call 312-492-3082 to confirm.)

Buddhism, one of the world’s major spiritual traditions, is also a faith of immense diversity and practice. This workshop looks at how these impact end-of-life care. The workshop will be presented by Horizon volunteer Rev. Tricia Teater, an ordained Buddhist priest who has volunteered in India and with Prison Hospice in Indiana.

Exciting News!

This summer, Horizon's volunteer program will partner with the University of Chicago's Metcalf Fellows Program. We will have two students from the program and we are looking forward to working with them and sharing Horizon's important mission.
